JEFFERSON CITY, MO. — With the Close the Gap Program now enacted into law, families can receive up to $1,500 in grants to cover the cost of tutoring and other resources. In response to Gov. Mike Parson signing HB 3002, Executive Director Craig Hulse issued the following statement on behalf of yes. every kid.:
“By providing funds directly to families, they will be empowered to access the education that meets their kid’s unique needs, no matter their level of income. These funds come at a critical time. The pandemic caused unprecedented disruption to students’ education—from the closing of school buildings to unplanned quarantine periods for both students and educators. Now all families will have resources to attain additional learning supports, such as tutoring or summer learning programs, to help accelerate learning.
Supporting a family’s decision-making when it comes to education is one of the most meaningful things we can do for kids. This initiative exemplifies forward-thinking education policies which will empower Missouri families. House Budget Chair Cody Smith played a critical role in leading this effort, thanks to his commitment to supporting students. The Close the Gap Program will provide families the flexibility to pursue what’s best for their child’s education.”
