Louisiana families deserve real options for their children’s education. Sen. Rick Edmonds has spent years working to make that a reality.

As chair of the Louisiana Senate Education Committee, Edmonds has been one of the most consistent champions for education freedom in the state. Most recently, he authored Senate Bill 313—the legislation that created the LA GATOR program, Louisiana’s first universal education savings account. After four years and more than a dozen bills and legislative resolutions, it became law in 2024.

That kind of persistence matters. Education freedom doesn’t happen overnight, and it rarely happens without someone willing to keep pushing.

LA GATOR gives Louisiana families the ability to use state funds for the educational expenses that best fit their child, whether that’s private school tuition, tutoring, or other learning options. It puts the decision where it belongs: with parents.

Sen. Edmonds has been clear about why that matters. Families deserve better educational choices for their children, and parents know their kids best. That’s the principle behind LA GATOR, and it’s the principle that should guide education policy in Louisiana.

We’re grateful for leaders who do the work to turn that principle into law.

If you believe every Louisiana child deserves access to an education that works for them, take a moment to thank Sen. Edmonds for his leadership.

Thank Sen. Rick Edmonds for standing up for Louisiana families.
