Today, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt delivered his 2025 State of the State address, noting the many ways the state empowers families and students with education freedom, including through public school open enrollment and a universal education tax credit.
Why it matters:
- In 2021, Oklahoma led the nation when it re-wrote its public-school open enrollment law, which now ranks as the top open enrollment law in the country.
- In 2023, Oklahoma led the nation again when it passed and enacted the first universal, refundable tax credit for families’ education expenses.
- Today, more than 27,000 Oklahoma families use it to direct funds toward their kids’ education.
- National polling found that three-quarters of K-12 parents support an Oklahoma-style tax credit for educational expenses.
What we’re saying
“Governor Stitt knows that families, not politicians, should control their kids’ educational pathways,” said Sam Duell, national policy director, yes. every kid. “We are excited to continue to work together to protect and expand the educational freedoms championed by his administration for the benefit of every Oklahoma family.”
