Last night during his 2025 State of the State Address, West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey highlighted the state’s progress in expanding education freedom.
Why it matters:
- HOPE Scholarships empower West Virginia families with about $4,400 to direct toward the education that best meets their kids’ needs.
- Currently, more than 11,000 students utilize a HOPE Scholarship to craft their education.
- In the 2026-27 school year, every student in West Virginia will be eligible to apply for a HOPE Scholarship.
What we’re saying:
- “Gov. Morrisey recognizes that education freedom expands opportunities for families and their kids to flourish in their education,” said Alice Kerce, government affairs director, yes. every. kid. “We look forward to continuing to work with officials in West Virginia to ensure that every family who wants a HOPE Scholarship has the opportunity to receive one.”
Go Deeper:
- Last July, State Treasurer Riley Moore announced that the program will open to an additional 30,000 to 40,000 students in the 2026-27 school year, since certain statutory enrollment benchmarks were met.
