Today, yes. every kid. celebrated the passage of legislation to expand education opportunities for Kansas families. HB 2468 now heads to Gov. Laura Kelly’s desk.
Why it matters:
This legislation is a significant step toward increased education freedom for Kansas families. Kansas Republican voters overwhelmingly support policies that expand access to educational options, including both the federal tax credit and the state’s scholarship program.
- 59% support expanding Kansas’ existing tax credit scholarship program.
- 55% support Kansas opting into President Trump’s new federal tax credit scholarship program, only 14% oppose.
- 87% support allowing parents — not the government — to choose the best school for their children, including 70% who strongly support it.
The big picture:
HB 2468 allows Kansas to opt in to the federal education tax credit, helping unlock scholarship opportunities for students and families across public, private, and homeschool settings. It also expands the state’s tax credit scholarship program by $5 million, empowering more families to choose an education that meets their children’s unique needs.
What we’re saying:
“The passage of HB 2468 is a good step in the right direction for Kansas families,” said Shannon Pahls, public affairs director at yes. every kid. “By expanding scholarship opportunities and opting in to the federal education freedom tax credit, this legislation moves the state closer to ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive in a learning environment that works for them. Families–not the government–should have the final say in how and where their children are educated.”
Bottom line:
Kansas families want more options for their children’s education, and today the Legislature delivered. Gov. Kelly should sign HB 2468 into law so more students can access an education that works for them.
