INDIANAPOLIS — In response to the Indiana Legislature’s adoption of the 2023-2025 biennial state budget, Government Affairs Director Marcus D. San Marino released the following statement on behalf of yes. every kid.

“Indiana has taken a major step in modernizing learning by empowering students with access to bespoke educational experiences. Indiana families want education that fits their child’s unique needs and learning styles, and the legislature has responded by enacting the most significant expansion of Indiana’s education freedom programs since their inception.”

“yes. every kid. applauds Speaker Huston and the Indiana Legislature on this tremendous effort. We look forward to working with Gov. Eric Holcomb and legislative leaders to ensure every kid in Indiana gets the opportunity they deserve.”

The law:

  • Expands access to Indiana’s Choice Scholarship program by removing current eligibility restrictions. All Indiana students with household income below 400% of that required to qualify for free or reduced-price lunches will be eligible to participate (up from 300%).
  • Retains the $10 million appropriated for Indiana’s Education Scholarship Account (ESA) program and extends eligibility to qualified students with household income below 400% of that required to qualify for free or reduced-price lunches (up from 300%).
  • Increases eligibility for the School Scholarship Tax Credit to families with household income below 400% of that required to qualify for free or reduced-price lunches and expands qualified expenses to include Pre-K.
