COLUMBUS, Ohio — In response to Gov. Mike DeWine signing HB 33, which includes expansion of the EdChoice Scholarship program, Government Affairs Director Tiffany Barfield released the following statement on behalf of yes. every kid.

“Today, Ohio is putting power where it belongs: in the hands of families. Ohioans want the freedom to choose the educational opportunities that fit their kids’ unique needs and learning styles. This is a strong step in that direction.

“We are grateful for the efforts of Gov. DeWine, President Matt Huffman, Speaker Stephens, and other leaders and look forward to working to advance bottom-up, innovative approaches to education that meet the needs of every Ohio kid.”

HB 33 includes an expansion of the EdChoice Scholarship program, which empowers families with the resources to help them afford to attend private schools. Currently, only students who attend chronically low-performing public schools are eligible. Under HB 33, all students are eligible for scholarship awards. Students whose families earn up to 450% of the federal poverty line will receive the full award; students whose families earn over 450% of the federal poverty line will receive a reduced amount.
