AUSTIN, Texas — In response to the filing of education freedom legislation, Government Affairs Director Tiffany Barfield released the following statement on behalf of yes. every kid.

“Texas has long been a leader when it comes to freedom, and it should be no different when it comes to education. Every family deserves the freedom to access the learning opportunities that best fit their unique needs and individual differences. Legislation that ensures families are in the driver’s seat when it comes to their child’s education will benefit every kid.

“We thank Gov. Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Gov. Dan Patrick, Chairman Brandon Creighton, Chairman James Frank, Sens. Angela Paxton, Mayes Middleton, and Donna Campbell, Chairman Briscoe Cain, and Reps. Jacey Jetton, Brian Harrison, Lynn Stucky, Steve Toth, Carrie Isaac, and Terri Leo-Wilson for their unwavering commitment to giving every Texas child access to the best education.”

Last month, a poll released by yes. every kid. sister organization yes. every kid. foundation. found the majority of Texans support implementing an Education Savings Account (ESA) program by a nearly three-to-one margin, with 60% supporting and 21% opposing. A majority of respondents (70%) oppose an ESA version that would limit participation to families in urban communities, excluding rural communities. Only 16% of respondents indicated support for excluding rural communities.
