PHOENIX — In response to the unsuccessful signature-gathering effort to repeal the Arizona Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) expansion, Executive Director Craig Hulse issued the following statement on behalf of yes. every kid.:
“Now that the signature-gathering effort to repeal the ESA expansion has been officially determined to be unsuccessful, it’s clear that Arizonans don’t want to go back to the way things were before. Public support illustrates this fact, as thousands of students have enrolled in the Arizona Empowerment Scholarship Account program. Arizona families desire greater options to provide their children with meaningful learning opportunities no matter their income or background. Families should be trusted with the latitude and resources to make decisions that best address the unique needs of their children.
“Arizona’s ESA program has been serving students and their families for over a decade, and universal expansion is good for everyone. Public schools will benefit, as educators will have fresh opportunities to design programs to meet the needs of students, and families will have a greater say over what’s best for their kids.”
