Chelsea Hutchings is a dedicated advocate whose journey in education and community service has shaped her into a powerful voice for inclusion and parental empowerment. She has dedicated her career to working with children and families in need—from supporting kids in a runaway and homeless shelter to serving as a resident advisor in a girls’ residential treatment center.
Now, as a wife and mother of five children, Chelsea’s life is a testament to the transformative power of community involvement. She spends every available moment volunteering at her children’s schools and throughout her community, championing the belief that every child deserves a seat at the table. Today, she embodies that commitment as a No More Lines Ambassador with yes. every kid.
“I shout the worth of each and every child, and I work to show that everybody belongs.”
Advocating for Equal Access to Public Schools
Every child, regardless of their address, family background, or abilities, deserves educational experiences that meet their needs. For Chelsea, inclusion is a philosophy she lives every day. Over the past year, she has led important dialogues about special education and inclusion, and she has been instrumental in launching an inclusion task force in her city.
Chelsea’s advocacy is deeply personal. When her youngest child—who has Down syndrome—was separated from his siblings and removed from his neighborhood school without parental consent, Chelsea was forced to confront the systemic inequities in education. “If my non-disabled children aren’t subjected to long, exhausting bus rides and disjointed community ties, then why should my disabled son be treated any differently?” she asks. Chelsea’s story is a powerful reminder that when we fail to include all children equally, we not only undermine the integrity of our education system—we undermine our shared humanity.
A Passion for Equality & Empowerment
This experience fuels her passion for an education system that empowers families to provide every child with the right educational experience for them. She is committed to ensuring that kids with disabilities are part of every conversation and that schools respect the rights of parents to choose their kids’ learning environment.
Her heartfelt message resonates with our mission: every kid should have equal access to public education, and every parent should have the power to advocate for their child’s future without facing discriminatory practices. Chelsea stands with No More Lines as we push for policies that dismantle outdated, exclusionary policies and build a future where educational opportunities are truly equal.
