Education freedom has been a central issue in many governors’ State of the State addresses this year. From expanding education freedom programs to passing open enrollment, governors made clear that empowering families and students is a growing priority nationwide.
As we look ahead to 2026, a clear theme is emerging: states are listening to families, putting students first, and expanding opportunity so every child can access an education that fits their unique needs. Here are just a few highlights that show how education freedom continues to gain momentum nationwide.


The HOPE Scholarship gives families the freedom to choose educational pathways that align with their children’s needs. Continued support from state leadership ensures that education choice remains accessible to families across West Virginia.

Florida’s sustained commitment demonstrates what’s possible when states prioritize student-centered education. Families across the Sunshine State now have more options and greater confidence that their children’s educational needs can be met.


Her remarks served as both a reflection on progress made and a reminder of the lasting impact strong leadership can have on students and families. Iowa’s education freedom efforts will continue to shape opportunities for years to come.
