COLUMBIA— In response to Gov. Henry McMaster signing SB 39, Government Affairs Director Andrew Yates released the following statement on behalf of yes. every kid.

“This is a win for kids across South Carolina—and one that was a long time coming. The Education Scholarship Trust Fund puts power in the hands of more families and expands learning opportunities for children. As we know, families want a personalized approach to education that recognizes every child as unique, instead of a one-size-fits-all education system. This is a strong step in that direction.

“We applaud Gov. McMaster for his leadership in the passage of this legislation. We also thank Senator Grooms, Senator Hembree, Rep. Erickson and Speaker Smith for their commitment to South Carolina’s kids and encourage future efforts to make the Education Scholarship Trust Fund available to every kid.”

SB 39 establishes The Education Scholarship Trust Fund, which provides an education savings account (ESA) of $6,000 for students whose families earn up to 400% of the federal poverty line. This funding can be used for tuition, curriculum, tutoring services, technology, and other expenses to support the child’s education.
